You’ve spent the morning juggling phone calls or rehearsing your presentation for a big meeting you’ve got coming up this afternoon.
It’s time for lunch. And you need to take your mind off work for half an hour or so.
What better way to spend your well-earned break than by chuckling over a hilarious blog post or two?
Check out our list of the top seven funniest blogs, many with a marketing twist, and you’ll be ready to face the afternoon with renewed zest.
1. 99 Problems But A Pitch Ain’t One (99problemsbutapitchaintone.tumblr.com/)
Perfect if you work in PR, this hilarious tumblr uses GIFs to document ‘First world problems of PR pros.’
We love the regular ‘weekly case of the Mondays’ posts. And their use of Harry Potter’s Hermione to convey the delivery of a report ‘you were asked to do last minute’…
You have to see it to appreciate it!
2. Tom Reads His Spam (tomreadshisspam.com/)
We’re all familiar with irritating, unsolicited emails, although spam settings mean that we might not be subjected to them on such a regular basis as we were in the past.
But now there’s a way to revel in the ridiculous. Tom Webster, VP of Strategy and Marketing at Edison research, has devoted his blog to reading spam out loud.
Complete with bad grammar and logic, Tom’s deadpan delivery is wonderful. Check it out!
3. Sharp Suits (sharpsuits.net/)
It’s not exactly a blog. But it definitely deserves to be on the list. Creatives and graphic designers have illustrated their (worst) client feedback. To great effect.
Our favourites include ‘I really like the colour but can you change it’ and ‘I like it. But can the snow look a little warmer?’
Have you ever heard anything similar? If you work in marketing or PR, there’s definitely something here to strike a chord.
4. People Who (peoplewho.us/)
A guide to the worst people in the world by a ‘frustrated anthropologist.’ Brilliant.
- People who hold the door open for you when you’re still 20 yards away, forcing you into an awkward jog of gratitude.
- People who can’t point at something on your computer screen without touching it.
Can you find anything you’ve done? We have to confess that we could (although not one listed here!)
5. Literally Unbelievable (literallyunbelievable.org/)
This blog republishes the comments that unsuspecting Facebook users post under fabricated stories.
Beneath a story headlined ‘Report finds children of parents often become parents themselves’, R has posted the following insightful interpretation: ‘I suspect genetics has played a role in this as well. If your parents had children, then you probably will as well.’
6. Animals Doing People Things (animalsthatdopeoplethings.tumblr.com/)
A cat sitting on an office chair, eyes closed and legs outstretched.
A dog on a rocking horse.
A seal laughing.
It’s not the most cerebral, but if it’s a quick and easy laugh you’re after, you can’t go wrong.
And some of them are pretty cute too!
7. I love charts (ilovecharts.tumblr.com/)
Check out this blog for a variety of flow charts, graphs, venn diagrams – you name it – on a huge range of topics.
Some are hilarious and others more serious.
We fully support the sentiment of their ‘Why you can’t eat just one chip’ diagram.
And their pie chart illustration of ‘Moving a picture in Microsoft Word’ is spot on!
