Bias/Heuristic Testing
Leadership Assessment and Analysis: Bias/Heuristic Testing
The Cognition Scientific Board will conduct the Big 5 Assessments and provide comprehensive reports for each individual leader.
Each of us is hardwired with a large number of cognitive biases and heuristics which impact our decision-making.
To give just 3 examples:
- The availability bias means we tend to assess probability based on the most cognitively available information rather than impersonal data.
- The sunk cost fallacy means we tend to continue to invest in an idea or a project if we have already made a substantial financial or emotional investment, regardless of the likelihood of a positive outcome.
- The narrative fallacy means we tend to assess probability based on the narrative structure of information rather than its statistical probability.
The impact of such biases and heuristics on business leaders is obvious and our assessments will provide a detailed resort of the impact of a wide range of biases on the dec we ision strategies of the executives on the programme.

Cognition has been fundamental in helping us define and understand our values and our culture. Their work was invaluable in supporting us on our journey and I can recommend them to any organisation looking to enhance their culture, attract the best talent and develop their people.
case studies
Cognition's use of psychology is both original and effective, especially for large organisations like Cisco….They grasped the brief and managed a complex web of internal stakeholders to deliver more than we expected.
case studies
After previously working with other consultancies, Cognition brought a clear understanding of psychology and behavioural science to our audience, and this proved much more successful in engaging our investors.
